Information You Submit
Terms Entered in Searches
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that feature. The provider processes the request and supplies its response. Knox County Criminal History does not retain or record those search terms on its own systems.
Email and Contact Messages
When you email or otherwise contact us, the message may be kept long enough to answer and manage the correspondence. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal duty.
Information Collected by Technology
Our servers may receive routine technical and usage details whenever a visitor opens a page, including:
- The device's assigned IP address
- Browser name, type, and version
- Operating system and device category
- Pages viewed and time spent on them
- Any referring website
- The date and time of each request
Analytics and Cookies
Cookies are small files placed on a device. We use them with analytics services to understand aggregate traffic, such as which Knox County record pages are visited and where sessions end. You may refuse cookies through your browser controls. Blocking them can change how some features perform.
Reasons We Use Information
- Operating the website reliably and improving load speed
- Routing a submitted search to the appropriate partner
- Measuring which resources visitors use
- Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
- Presenting advertising that may reflect visitor interests
We Keep No Criminal-Record Database
Knox County Criminal History does not own, assemble, maintain, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It provides general directions to official custodians, including the Knox County Sheriff, Nebraska trial-court clerks, the Nebraska State Patrol Criminal Identification Division, and the Nebraska Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not combined into a file about another person or used to create a consumer report. This resource is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Outside Search Providers
Independent companies operate the search boxes offered through the website. Information submitted there is subject to that provider's privacy notice rather than this policy. We do not set or control an outside provider's retention, processing, or disclosure rules. Review its terms before entering a query.
Websites Reached Through Links
Links may lead to the Knox County government, court systems, Nebraska agencies, legal-assistance organizations, and independent search services. Once you follow an outside link, the destination's privacy terms govern the visit. Check those terms before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use technology on their own systems to follow activity across different websites and select targeted advertising. We do not operate that cross-site tracking.
Parties That May Receive Information
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be provided to:
- Outside search services processing a query you submit
- Analytics providers measuring use and performance
- Advertising networks delivering ads on the website
- A government body or law-enforcement agency responding to a valid legal order
Safeguarding Collected Information
Reasonable, commonly used safeguards protect the information in our control. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, however. We work to reduce risk but cannot promise that unauthorized access or a data breach will never occur.
Visitors Younger Than 18
The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If we learn that a minor supplied personal data, we will remove it promptly after the issue is brought to our attention.
Rights Concerning Your Information
Your place of residence and the law applicable to a request may provide additional privacy rights. You may ask to:
- Receive a copy of personal information we hold about you
- Correct personal information that is inaccurate
- Delete eligible personal information
- Decline certain forms of processing when the law permits
The Nebraska Public Records Statutes, Neb. Rev. Stat. §§84-712 through 84-712.09, govern access to records held by Nebraska public bodies, not private visitor files kept here. Neb. Rev. Stat. §29-3523 separately limits public dissemination of specified Nebraska criminal-history information. Requests for official Knox County records must go to the government office that maintains them.
Revisions to This Policy
We may revise this privacy policy from time to time. Any new version will be posted here with a changed effective date, so visitors should review the policy periodically.
Effective date: July 31, 2026
